Ordinations: Day of Jubilation at St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary

On Saturday, June 6, 2020, Ember Saturday in the Octave of Pentecost, His Excellency Bishop Bernard Fellay ordained four priests for the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX).

Although the ordinations were originally scheduled to take place on June 12, disruptions brought on by the outbreak of COVID-19 (“Coronavirus”) compelled St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary to reschedule the event while limiting public participation to the ordinands’ immediate family members.

All four ordinands come from the United States. Additionally, Bishop Fellay elevated three Americans to the diaconate, along with one Irishman.

The ordination ceremony at St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary was the first to take place in the Northern Hemisphere this year. Ordinations at the SSPX’s seminaries in Zaitzkofen, Germany and Ecône, Switzerland are scheduled to take place later this month. Once these celebrations are held, the Society will have received 16 new priests in June 2020.
