On April 22, an international conference will be held in Rome, with all of the presentations given by laymen on the dubia about Amoris laetitia.
On April 22, 2017 an international conference will be held in Rome on the topic of “Bringing Clarity”, alluding to the title of the dubia about Amoris laetitia that Cardinals Walter Brandmüller, Raymond L. Burke, Carlo Caffarra and Joachim Meisner sent to the Pope on September 19, 2016, without receiving a response to date. (See DICI no. 345 dated November 25, 2016)
The conference will be held at the Hotel Columbus, not far from Saint Peter’s Square. Speakers from all over the world will present talks: Anna M. Silvas from Australia, Claudio Pierantoni from Chile, Jürgen Liminski from Germany, Douglas Farrow from Canada, Jean-Paul Messina from Cameroon, and Thibaud Collin from France.
Anna M. Silvas is the author of a very precise critical study entitled: “Alice in Amoris laetitia-land”, published on June 7, 2016, by the Vaticanist Sandro Magister on his website (esee DICI no. 338 dated July 1, 2016). Claudio Pierantoni published on November 2, 2016, an essay in which he draws a very enlightening parallel between the current debate on Amoris laetitia and the Arian crisis that shook the Church sixteen centuries ago (see DICI no. 346 dated December 9, 2016).
As Sandro Magister emphasized on April 4: “The distinctive element of the conference is that all of the presentations will be given by laymen, demonstrating that the controversy that divides the Church today is by no means exclusive to a ‘few’ reactionary ecclesiastics—as some hazard to say—but involves the whole ‘people of God’. Nor for that matter are the scholars who will speak on April 22 isolated voices. It should suffice to consider—among the many others who could be cited—two eminent figures like Stanislaw Grygiel of Poland and Rémi Brague of France, both staunch supporters of the soundness of the ‘dubia’ submitted to the pope by the four cardinals.”
This international conference has the support of the monthly apologetics magazine Il Timone and of the website La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana, both headed by Riccardo Cascioli.
