Its first academic year drawing to a close, the new St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary will host its first ordinations of nine men to the priesthood.
On Friday July 7, 2017, His Excellency Bishop Bernard Fellay will ordain nine men to the priesthood at St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Dillwyn, VA. The ordinations, which will be the first held at the new seminary facility which opened last year, will be followed by a day of first Masses by the new priests and a Solemn Mass on Sunday.
Founded in 1970 by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) operates much like a missionary order, spreading the Catholic Faith throughout the world. As an international priestly society of common life without vows, the SSPX trains, supports, and encourages holy priests so that they may draw souls closer to Christ primarily through the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The Society's annual ordinations are a cause of great rejoicing and a sign that the traditional work of the Catholic priesthood continues to grow even in perilous times such as these. In keeping with the missionary spirit of the SSPX, three of the nine men being ordained will be sent into the missionary field abroad by Bishop Fellay while the other six will remain to minister within the U.S. District.
