Watch a video about the new seminary being built in Virginia and read about the recent ordinations at Winona!
But an even more important supernatural "building up" occurred this morning (Friday, April 11th) at St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Winona, Minnesota, when nearly half the seminarians received the tonsure and minor holy orders, important steps along the spiritual road to the Priesthood of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
As reported by stas.org, here are some facts about the seminarians who received minor holy orders:
- The first year philosophers (these are seminarians in their third year at the seminary) received the clerical tonsure.
- The second year philosophers (4th year seminarians) received the first two (out of four) minor orders, that of Porter and Lector.
- The first year theologians (5th year seminarians) received the last two of the minor orders, that of Exorcist and Acolyte.
Tomorrow (Sitientes Saturday, April 12), will see seminarians in their 6th year of studies receive the first major holy order, the subdiaconate. The subdiaconate rank is a special step towards the priesthood and during the ordination ceremony, the subdeacon makes a promise of chastity while obliging himself to pray the Divine Office in its entirety daily.
Please keep these clerics in your prayers, that they may persevere in a vocation to the priesthood and continue to grow in grace and spiritual wisdom.
Lastly, don't forget the ordinations to diaconate and priesthood that are planned for June 13 in Winona.
