In preparation for the holy priesthood, several seminarians of the SSPX have been recently ordained to the subdiaconate.
Continuing its mission to form priests for the Roman Catholic Church, the Society of St. Pius X recently ordained from 2 of its seminaries 6 subdeacons, as well as some seminarians to the minor orders.
Here in the United States, 3 seminarians were ordained to the subdiaconate for St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Winona, MN, though the ceremony was held in the newly-consecrated Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Phoenix, AZ.
The subdiaconate ordinations occurred the day after the church's solemn consecration, Monday, September 14th, and were given by Bishop Bernard Fellay to:
- Rev. Mr. Brandon Haenny
- Rev. Mr. Paul Franks
- Rev. Mr. Francis Palmquist
God-willing, these subdeacons will be ordained as deacons on Saturday, November 28th.
Also occuring during the Phoenix ceremonies of Monday was the administration of the clerical tonsure to a Benedictine monk from the Silver City Monastery studying at Winona, Br. Sebastian Underhill.
The other 3 subdeacons were ordained on August 15th (Feast of the Assumption) for Holy Cross Seminary at Goulburn (near Sydney), Australia. Bishop Alfonso de Galarreta ordained:
- Rev. Mr. Nicholas Stamos of the United States
- Rev. Mr. Erik Ladner of the United States
- Rev. Mr. Anthony McNamara of Australia
Also on the previous day of August 14th at Holy Cross Seminary, Bishop de Galarreta bestowed the clerical tonsure and the minor orders of Porter, Lector, Exorcist and Acolyte upon:
- Mr. Amalan Gnanaraj of India
- Mr. Edward Campbell of the United States
- Mr. John Mwangi of Kenya
Please keep these subdeacons and seminarians in your prayers that they will persevere in their vocation to the priesthood!
