The last couple of days the news
has spread amongst our faithful that "Sister
Lucia of Fatima had an apparition of the Blessed Virgin, requesting that the
Carmels pray (the Rosary) especially on the 6th & 7th
of October, in order to prevent a blood bath, which is about to happen".
This is
a false rumor and has been denied by the Carmel of Coimbra.
It is probably based upon the
following:

An initiative
of the Association of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima. This Association
asked several Episcopal Conferences to make October 7, feast of Our Lady of
the Rosary, a particular day of prayer for peace in the world. The
Association’s press release indicated that Sister Lucia and the Carmel
were united with this initiative.

The fact that
the Coimbra Carmel prayed for 24 hours in a row on October 7, and that the
Mother Prioress considers that these are grave times.

An internal
communication between some Carmels that was badly interpreted.
All this, added to the tension
that presently exists in the world produced the false news described above.
Nevertheless, the present time
can be very well understood in the light of the Fatima message, and of the
invitation to have recourse to the protection of Our Lady and to implore God’s
clemency by the prayer of the Rosary, especially during this month of the
Rosary.
